Sources overview

Every source Paperbeam can read, what we collect from each, read-only scopes, filters and the beats they feed.

Sources are the tools Paperbeam reads to find the news. Connect them at Sources. Admins and owners can connect and disconnect sources. Starter includes 5 connected sources; Growth and above are unlimited.

Three ways data comes in

Custom MCP serversInternal systems and long-tail toolsPoint Paperbeam at a remote MCP server and approve which read-only tools it may call.

What every source has in common

  • Read-only. We ask for the narrowest read scopes each tool offers, and every scope is explained on its page below. Paperbeam never writes to your tools, except to post the paper to chat channels you choose.
  • Windowed. Each edition reads only its reporting window, plus a short look-back for context. Lede stories can cite the same customer’s calls and deals from the prior 120 days as background.
  • Data, never instructions. Content from sources can’t steer the writer. See how editions are written.
  • Health. Each source page in the app shows status, last sync, recent items and errors. A failing source makes the edition partial (it still ships, from the other sources) and is flagged on the dashboard.
  • Beats. Each source feeds certain beats (wins, voice of the customer, product, people…). Beats describe what a source is good for; the sections you enable decide where its stories run.

Try it without real data

Every catalog tile offers Use simulated demo data: the tool is connected to Northwind Labs, a fictional 150-person SaaS company with calls, deals, tickets, releases and team news. Swap in the real tool whenever you’re ready.
