The Galley and approvals
Review, edit, kill or regenerate stories before they ship. Approval modes, review windows and deadline policies.
The Galley (Galley in the app) is where editors review an edition before it ships. It lists editions waiting for review (in the galley, held or approved) and those recently shipped. Owners, admins and editors can use it.
Approval modes
Set per edition at Editions›(edition)›Approval:
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Auto-publish unless flagged (default) | Publishes on schedule unless the quality report has any flag, a failed gate, or confidence below 0.8. Then an editor reviews it. |
| Editor approves each edition | Every edition waits in the Galley for approval. |
| Auto-publish | Never waits. Sensitive stories are dropped automatically instead of being flagged. |
Runs start 20 minutes before your delivery time. When review is needed, approvers get an email titled “Review needed: …” listing the flags, the deadline and a link to the Galley. If an edition has named approvers, only they are notified; otherwise all owners, admins and editors are. More than one approver per edition needs Growth or above.
Deadlines
The review deadline is your scheduled delivery time. If that has already passed (for example a manual run), it is now plus the review window (default 30 minutes, 5 to 1,440). At the deadline, the edition’s deadline policy applies:
| Policy | At the deadline |
|---|---|
| Publish without flagged stories (default) | Flagged stories are removed and the rest is published. If every story was flagged, the edition is held. |
| Hold | Nothing is sent. The edition stays in the Galley as held. |
| Publish anyway | The edition is published as written. |
Reviewing an edition
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Approve & publish | Approves exactly the version you are looking at. If anything changed since you loaded the page, you are asked to reload. |
| Send now | After approval, sends immediately instead of waiting for the scheduled time. |
| Hold | Stops the edition from going out, with an optional reason. |
| Edit (per story) | Change the headline and paragraphs. |
| Regenerate with a note | Rewrites one story with your instruction, for example “lead with the customer’s reason for switching”. |
| View sources | The facts behind the story, with quotes, speakers and links to the original records. |
| Kill story | Removes the story. Killing the lede promotes the next story; the only story can’t be removed. |
| Reader view | Opens the edition as readers will see it. |
Corrections become house rules
Every edit and kill is recorded in the edition’s change history (the last 20 are shown). When you edit a story, Paperbeam can turn the correction into a rule. Choose Make this a house rule? then Add to house style, and future editions follow it.
On-time guarantee
An edition delivered more than 30 minutes after its scheduled time is marked late. We automatically credit your account one edition’s worth: your plan’s monthly price divided by 22. Time an edition spends waiting for your approval still counts toward lateness, so set a review window that fits your editors’ mornings.
